| Shrnutí: | This paper investigates the problematic space occupied by the epic, that national narrative par excellence, in an increasingly globalized age. Re-centering the Hegelian conception of the epic as concretizing “the total world of a nation and epoch” towards contemporary theories of globalization allows us to see the global and the local as overlapping plates, perpetually interacting through violent collisions or more complicit coalescences. The specificity of postcolonial epics would therefore seem to lie in their distinctly un-Hegelian configuration of multiple tectonic plates of many nations and many epochs. |
