In both cases the narration lays the emphasis on the necessity for Azaro to interpret the world rather than on a creative process. The device is thus realistic rather than magic realist but the stark contrast resulting from the choice of a first person narration provokes readerly puzzlement and I contend that it is to be solved by a foregrounding of interrogation rather than of certainty.
