From the Tick to the Brontosaurus: Animal Imagery in Alex La Guma’s Novels
La Guma uses metaphors inspired by the animal world to show the dehumanizing effect of the apartheid regime. The author evokes creatures, both tame and wild, ranging from the tick to gigantic fossil reptiles such as the brontosaurus. Their role is to highlight the complex nature of human beings.
