| Izvleček: | Tristran, The Morholt and the Dragon“The Childhood of Tristan”, which opens with the tragic story of the two lovers from Cornwall, appears at first reading as a hors d’oeuvre built on an assembly of more or less heterogeneous themes and miscellaneous patterns, some being heroic, others being enigmatic and others being bizarre and ever burlesque. But far from being a simple and entertaining bric-à-brac, this prelude to the tragic love affair reproduces in its scenario with excruciating details and with complete accuracy the complete narrative structure, the minutely pre-constructed journey that organizes, on the territory of the lndo-Europeans, the initiation and/or the promotion of the typical war-hero. lt is in this setting that all the following events receive their signification and their justification : the first regular duel between Tristan and the Morholt, the combat against the great crested snake, the third character status of the hero, the poisoning, which is both a stain and a threat, the after-effects of the perilous victory, the diving into the pond, the traitorous notch and the hostile female intervention… This sort of scenario was thoroughly analyzed in the lrish epics, in Roman history and even in The Mahabharata by Georges Dumézil, who furnished thanks to striking parallels abundant and convincing comparative material. |
