| Resumo: | The poetry of Vasilis Michaelides provides echoes of Cyprus’ linguistic history from the late 19th century. The sociolinguistic profile of the era, that only survives partially in trilingual advertisements and administrative announcements of the colonial period, is vividly reflected in Michaelides’ work, especially in his trilingual poems. The present essay addresses the use of turkisms in the poetry of Vasilis Michaelides and his trilingual poems, which can be interpreted as a reflection of the unique social conditions of the time. |
