| Summary: | The article attempts to highlight key aspects related to the process of recovering ecclesiastical/monastic property in Cyprus on behalf of churches/monasteries, as well as its management framework after the incorporation of Cyprus into the Ottoman empire. The simultaneous approach of both sides directly involved, both the Church and the Ottoman state, allows us to have an overview of this complex issue by identifying points of conformity and violation of the land tenure regime during the second half of the 16th century. The question is examined in the light of the case study of Kykkos monastery and is primarily based on the published Ottoman archival material of the monastery itself. |
