Zusammenfassung:Raymond Chandler’s critical relationship to American politics and to the democratic model does not find expression through explicit comments, which are hindered by his behaviourist stylistics, but rather through allusions. Thus, the overall evolution of his plots can be read as a subtle reflection of changes in the American society regarding the integration or exclusion of specific classes of citizens. Likewise, his novels implicitly stage and discuss essential topics of the democratic process, i.e. class division, political corruption and the role of public opinion.
