| Sumari: | The characterization of the discursive practices of religious communities has remained limited, despite the role played by religion in socio-political spheres. The present paper discusses how drawing upon Swales’ (2016) notion of discourse community (DC) could provide a fruitful insight into this specialized domain. Focusing on the United Methodist Church (UMC) in the United States, it aims to assess the extent to which this religious community may be considered to be forming a DC. A specialized corpus is built and examined by conducting textometric analyses. The study infers that while the UMC can be described as a discourse community, the interplay between shared discourse and individual action needs further investigation. |
