الملخص:The Antilles offer us not only an archipelago, but especially an archipelagic thought, a way to look at the world through the prism of the many languages and cultures that inhabit this multifaceted space. The cultural and linguistic landscape of the Caribbean enables constant interaction and communication, as well as an authentic relation in which each culture and each language nourishes the others.Starting from Derek Walcott’s essay ‘The Antilles: Fragments of Epic Memory’, in which the author talks about his discovery of the performance of Ramleela in Felicity, which he sees as an opportunity of ‘restoring’ shattered histories, I will thus read the positive fragility and fragmentation that makes of the Caribbean archipelago one of the best environments for the development of a new understanding of languages, of the relations among languages, and ultimately of a ‘poetics of translation’ that extends beyond the linguistic domain, as well as the relationship between India and the Caribbean, through two Caribbean ‘performances’ of India.
