Descripció
Sumari:This contribution is a report on an underwater salvation operation carried out in 1989 in a heavily looted large pond at Paya Pasir, thought to have functioned as a landing place for ships serving the Kota Cina settlement. A large amount of broken parts of ships and boats of various sizes were recovered, drawn and studied, together with a large quantity of pottery sherds. All the recovered timbers belonged to ships, small and large, that were built according to the well-known lashed-lug Southeast Asian shipbuilding tradition. They have been dated to the early centuries of the 2nd millennium CE, and are therefore contemporary with the Kota Cina site. Their presence in the site serving the Kota Cina settlement confirms the role it played in long distance and regional maritime trade.
