| Shrnutí: | A total of 999 coins (or fragments), all identified as Chinese cash coins, were uncovered during the 2011–2016 excavations at Kota Cina. They are of various denominations (1, 2 and 10 wen). Fifty-nine percent of them have been identified - the rest are illegible. Those identified were issued between the sixth and thirteenth centuries CE, the majority (87%) cast during the Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127). The dynastic distribution of Chinese coins in this corpus is similar to results obtained from a surface finds collection undertaken at this site in the 1970s, and to the corpus of the Nanhai I wreck. However, there is a peculiarity in the composition of coin-types found at Kota Cina, precisely a notably higher proportion of Yuan You tongbao coins than is normally found in mainland China, which may suggest a strong influx of Chinese coins in the region during the reign of the Emperor Zhezong (1086–1100). |
