| Gaia: | The Kota Cina 2011–2016 excavations yielded more than 51,000 Chinese ceramic shards dated between late eleventh and early fourteenth centuries. The typo-chronological catalogue distinguishes ten main categories represented by twelve general shapes and a total of 95 types including bowls, small dishes, plate, box-lids, box-bottoms, basins, lid, jars, jarlets, bottles, ewers, and one pillow. Several types were rarely traded outside China. Comparisons with data available from other old settlement sites in North Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia, as well as data from a number of shipwreck cargoes in Southeast Asia and the China Sea allow to confirm and qualify the dating bracket for the ancient occupation of Kota Cina. |
