| Shrnutí: | Since February 2022, almost one million Ukrainian citizens have reached the Republic of Moldova fleeing the ongoing conflict. Many of them continued their journey to other countries, while around 100,000 people stayed in Moldova. After thirty years of depopulation due to heavy emigration, Moldova thus faced the challenge of welcoming a large number of newcomers who triggered a series of significant cultural, social, economic and political transformations. This article focuses on the different forms of mobility intertwined by the presence of Ukrainian migrants in Moldova, discussing the role played by the infrastructures and professionals in the tourism sector, as well as by the youngsters of the Moldovan diaspora who caught the job opportunities offered by international organisations. It also explores some of the social transformations produced by the practices of hospitality that Moldovan civil society is experiencing through the involvement of grassroot associations, citizens’ groups and activist collectives that see the encounter with refugees as an opportunity to imagine a different future for their country. |
