| Sumari: | This study examines discourses on the occupation during the Second World War in French and Polish history textbooks. Our objective is to examine how this dark period is named from the perspective of social representations and their modifications from the 1950s to the present. Thus, we will focus on the nouns (occupation and okupacja) and their specifying adjectives (“Hitler”/hitlerowski, “Nazi”/nazistowski, “Allemand” (German)/niemiecki and also Sovietique/sowiecki or radziecki and Italien/włoski) as well as figurative expressions (such as les années noires [“the dark years”]/ /w cieniu swastyki).). The study of naming practices reveals different discursive cultures and thus, the varied and dynamic social representations that were forged in France and Poland. They do not result from differences in referential universes but from two different ways of “narrating” reality. |
