Итог:This article looks at the positive dimension of the upward social mobility of three dancers surveyed over a long period of time. Taking their ‘ambition’ seriously, i.e. a medium- to long-term vision of themselves that propels them into a social world far removed from the one in which they evolved in the early years of their lives, means understanding the scope for action that they seized along the way, but also attempting to sociologise the affects that they had to mobilise to bring about this social metamorphosis. The emotional motivations behind the desire for social mobility thus become the object of sociological investigation. This makes it possible to explore, right down into the folds of the psyche, the variations in the trajectories of social agents who are themselves part of the determinations in which they are caught, and the way in which they constantly negotiate their impulses in the face of the probable. The article then focuses on the ability to act, and more specifically when it is deployed in professional practice. In the context of a dancer’s work, overcoming the reality of its determinations is in itself a matter of a form of practical intelligence by body that unfolds in the action itself and in the ability to invent new aesthetic forms in situ, beyond any prior conceptualisation.
