Résumé:The importance of Piera Aulagnier's work lies primarily in her original theoretical approach to the etiology of psychosis. Her clinical work with psychotic patients led her to rethink certain elements of Freudian metapsychology, particularly regarding the primal, but also the place of fantasy in relation to the thinkable. This article summarizes some aspects of her theory of psychosis, highlighting a major point on which she differs from Freud: the place given to historical reality. This epistemological perspective can be linked to what was to become an important part of her work, namely exploring the inter-individual and societal dimensions of alienation.
