Résumé:The increasing prevalence of autoimmune diseases calls for theoretical and clinical reflection on the specificities of psychoanalytic treatment for analysands suffering from such conditions. The experience of chronic somatic illness can be described in terms of exile, strangeness, and a distortion of temporality. The hypothesis of a hypochondriacal behavior in somatic patients highlights a particular transference dynamic: In the treatment of the somatic patient, the analyst is called upon to handle a diffracted transference. Psychoanalytic practices are therefore prompted to evolve, rethinking the role of the body in treatment toward a form of “embodied listening”.
