Placed within a generative framework, it aims at showing how the interaction of different linguistic modules led to the development of the various passé composé forms of the Romance languages from their Latin ancestors. The syntactic structures are of primary importance here since they allow us to avoid a vague semantic interpretation, which in turn would imply a diffuse structural analysis.
