| Riassunto: | Which factors can predict compliance with COVID-19 health measures, such as wearing masks or adhering to lockdown rules? This paper investigates people’s precautionary attitudes through their declared degree of support for the precautionary principle (PP). The latter is particularly relevant to the situations linked to the COVID pandemic since, according to this principle, when faced with the possibility of significant harm, measures should be taken even if causal relationships have not been fully established scientifically. For the purpose of this article, we administered a web survey on a representative sample (N=1,154) of the French population in May 2020. The results show that, even after controlling for risk aversion, adherence to the PP is positively correlated with compliance with each of the six health measures considered. |
