Samenvatting:Introduction: Allophones constitute 10% of the French population according to INSEE. Faced with climate hazards and regional instabilities, this group will tend to grow in the coming years. Since 2016, professional interpreting has been recommended in the care of allophone patients. Yet, many methods continue to be used without knowing the risks. Purpose of the research: To describe the communication methods used by general practitioners in community medicine, outside of professional interpreting, and to specify the practices of health professionals and the reasons leading to the choice of these methods. Results: Among 2,107 articles identified, 16 articles were included after analysis of the titles and then the texts. The notion of trust was a crucial element in communication with allophone patients. The digital revolution was also a promising area in the communication with this group of individuals. In addition to effective translation, cultural exchange enabled better patient adherence. Conclusions: In this study, non-recommended communication methods are mainly used by general practitioners despite numerous biases. The digital revolution could bring innovative tools in terms of communication; however, professional interpreters raise key issues in terms of the patient-doctor relationship and patient-centered care. Analyzing patients’ experiences and the efficiency of the use of digital translation tools in the care of allophone patients is necessary in order to better understand how to integrate these tools and adapt them throughout the care pathway.
