| Shrnutí: | In this article on the political philosophy of education and the contemporary history of political and educational ideas, we look at the two successive phases through which Arendt became, in the French intellectual arena, first a major theorist of totalitarianism, and then a classic reference in the philosophy of education. In particular, we show how her combination of resolute political anti-totalitarianism and no less solid educational conservatism became a standard, and is today the source of some of our difficulties in thinking positively about a democratic education that is compatible with the hypermodern society of individuals and not, more negatively, about a totalitarian education that may not be free of problematic aristocratic remanences, in the sense that Tocqueville gives to the term. |
