| Samenvatting: | During the last 25 years, the market economy has contributed considerably to the growth of the standard of living in Poland but at the same time it has impoverished a big part of the society. The poverty in Poland affects particularly children and youth. Governments have not been able to deal with this problem yet as allowances and supplementary alimentation they offer is not what can impact their lives. The one thing that can is a belief that one has a potential to change his/ her own life. And as potential is not a phenomenon that can easily be measured - so escapes from the statistics – it is rarely being taken into consideration while designing assistance programs. The experience of the Foundation for Poland shows that helping young people build their self-esteem may be this missing element that makes the change happen. |
