| Résumé: | In this paper, we study cooperation between healthcare professionals through their use of a shared information system (SIS). Building upon prior research analyzing the use of performance indicators in hospitals, we here propose to examine the case of a new form of primary care organizations in France: the multi-professional healthcare centers (MPHCs). MPHCs gather healthcare professionals with private practice who are required to coordinate their work and to articulate it with health authorities in order to enhance healthcare services provided to the local population. The semi-structured interviews and the in situ observations we have conducted highlight the coexistence of two ambivalent trends in the perceptions and uses of the SIS. While the government has imposed the use of an SIS to MPHCs’ members to support the joint production of medical data (for patient monitoring) and managerial data (for evaluating healthcare activities), practitioners distinguish and prioritize these two uses of the system. Some primary care teams perceive this order to digitalize care monitoring as an institutional attempt to control their work, while others rather see the SIS as an opportunity to promote the quality of their work. These conflicting receptions of the same policy impact the organization of coordinated work inside MPHCs and the way their members define their use of the SIS. |
