| Résumé: | Since the 1990s, child-parent meeting places (LAEPs) have become institutionalised and have spread widely across France. This is a parenting support system in which the care givers’ prac- tices offer renewed research perspectives. Based on a qualitative study carried out in 2021 in six LAEP centres in two departments of mainland France, combining observations and interviews with childcare workers and parents during childcare sessions, this research focuses on how childcare workers understand and shape the LAEP framework. These structures are part of a prevention mission and, according to the standards set by the Family branch of the National Family Allowance Fund (CNAF), subjected to a requirement of neutrality. The article offers a typological analysis of four intervention methods—welcoming children and parents; filtering normative judgements; inducing by inviting families to adopt certain parenting stances while respecting their autonomy of action; and advising through suggestions based on knowledge deemed legitimate—through which preventive goals and the requirement of neutrality are articulated.
