By migrating and developing an intimate relationship with their French partner, these women, originally from a former Soviet Union country, shift between gender regimes. Drawing on their surprises, disappointments, or satisfactions regarding the transformations that occurred during their migration and in their conjugal experiences, this article shows how mobility from one nation to another impacts gender and conjugality. Some accounts of intimate interactions reveal discrepancies and misunderstandings between partners, as they do not share the same norms and practical rules concerning gender. Beyond these interactional accidents emerges a loosening of gendered expectations regarding what it means to be a man or a woman, highlighting the leeway and freedom offered by transnational conjugality and the migratory experience.À partir d’une enquête qualitative menée auprès de couples franco-postsoviétiques résidant en France entre 2012 et 2019, cet article aborde les conséquences croisées de l’expérience migratoire et de la conjugalité transnationale sur le genre. En migrant et en développant une relation intime avec leur partenaire français, ces femmes, originaires d’un ex-pays de l’Union soviétique, changent de régimes de genre. En prenant appui sur leurs étonnements, leurs déceptions ou leurs satisfactions vis-à-vis des transformations intervenues au cours de leur migration et dans leurs expériences conjugales, cet article met en lumière ce que la mobilité d’une nation à une autre fait au genre et à la conjugalité. Certains comptes rendus d’interactions intimes révèlent des décalages et des malentendus entre les partenaires, dans la mesure où ils et elles ne maîtrisent pas les mêmes normes et règles pratiques en matière de genre. Au-delà de ces accidents de l’interaction apparaît un relâchement des injonctions genrées sur ce que signifie être un homme ou une femme, permettant d’éclairer les marges de manœuvre et de liberté offertes par la conjugalité transnationale et l’expérience migratoire.Cairn free access |
