It first looks at the resources that conjugality provides to asylum seekers, even if the procedure has long-term consequences on their (potential) relationships with women. Next, it explores the difficulties of projecting oneself into a conjugal life as an asylum seeker. In the end, it shows that the action capacities needed for properly “doing gender” are jeopardised by the everyday life of asylum seeking and disrupt these men’s self-esteem and self-maintenance. Cairn free access
