Yhteenveto:The publication of the Cahiers de formation, a diary kept by Michel Serres from 1961 to 1974, not only provides an insight into the genesis of his thought, but also allows one to link the latter to the account Serres gave of his own biography. The hypothesis put forward here is that, starting with his vocation for mathematics, which he experienced as a ’withdrawal from the world’, he went on to develop a way of thinking that restores the world of objects to its rightful place: at the same time as the subject was being abolished, it became clear that communication was taking place within things themselves. As a basis for this reading, we have made the choice of giving a number of fairly extensive extracts from Serres’s text, all drawn from the Cahiers de formation.
