| Riassunto: | Humor is an essential component of human functioning, involving various cognitive and emotional processes. As a result, some styles of humor can be considered more adaptive than others for each individual. From a cross-cultural perspective, research on humor in psychology has focused on the differences in perception and appreciation of humor between collectivist and individualist cultures. However, to the best of our knowledge, no studies have been carried out on the impact of acculturation on the way humor is perceived and engaged with in a particular cultural context. The aim of this study is therefore to identify humor profiles as a function of acculturation strategy. We used two questionnaires, one assessing six forms of humor and the other assessing the degree of acculturation. Our results show significant differences between French participants and foreign participants living in France. In particular, it was found that foreign participants are less likely to engage in negative forms of humor that may be misperceived within a given cultural context. These results confirm the influence of cross-cultural variability and allow us to improve our understanding of the nature of humor. |
