| Résumé: | The article provides the edition, a philological and linguistic commentary, and a proposal for the historical context of the translation into langue d’oc of the “pseudo-bull” Ad memoriam reducendo. This short Latin prose text, combining normative and narrative dimensions, consists in an account of the establishment of the jubilee of 1350 by Pope Clement VI, and the sacramental practices and ritual gestures to be performed in order to gain the remission of sins. Ad memoriam reducendo is not, however, the official document recorded in the Bullarium romanum, but a text of uncertain status known only through two fourteenth-century chroniclers: Albericus de Rosate and Petrus de Herenthals. The reflection on the context in which the Occitan translation was produced and the examination of the only surviving manuscript – Rodez, Archives diocésaines, 1 – enable us to date the vernacular text between 1344 and 1349/1350; the analysis of the language allows us to pinpoint its production to the Rodez region. The manuscript in the Diocesan Archives turns out to be a copy and transmits a text that is closer to the one recorded by Petrus de Herenthals than to the one known by Albericus de Rosate. |
