Résumé:This paper examines how the academic teaching in literature could rely on a comparative study of ancient literary traditions including non-European corpora. It is based on Wiebke Denecke’s work on two pairs of ancient literatures (Greek and Latin, Chinese and Japanese), through which she addresses the modalities of referring to a “reference culture”. By using the anthropological approach to Greek and Roman cultures to explore these theoretical avenues, this paper advocates a comparative pedagogy of ancient literary traditions, freed from the alledged opposition between European and non-European.
