Resumo:In this essay, an ethics of philology is presented from a historical and systematic point of view. Having an ethical approach to philology, understood as a specific way of reading, means behaving responsibly toward a text, while also taking into account the socio-political and cultural skills and values that can be implemented in conjunction with philology. By being responsible in its treatment of the text, it is argued, philology is especially capable of being ethical when it defends the rights of linguistic individuals against the hermeneutic claims of totality, unity, and wholeness.
