| Résumé: | This study aims to emphasize the matrixial importance of ritual weeping in relation to Greek tragedy and medieval Passion plays. First, the connection between Greek tragedy and the threne evokes a theatrical tradition bearing the hallmarks of a mourning rite once associated with the death of vegetation deities. Then, we will attempt to show that the different nuances of grief expressed by Mary in Passion plays are primarily indebted to popular manifestations of mourning. |
