Description
Résumé:The pioneering work of Jacques Sigot made it possible, from the 1980s on, to reveal the history of the concentration camp of Montreuil-Bellay, which had fallen into oblivion. One gap remained to be filled : to draw up a list of the internees. Research conducted since 2016 has established that around 1,850 people, mostly Gypsies, were interned in the camp. The creation of a database makes it possible to propose a structured and segmented study of the interned population, to reinscribe its history in the national panorama of the internment of nomads, and to analyze in detail the logic of transfers and the repressive practices at work. The highlighting of particular paths brings to light the heterogeneity and complexity of trajectories: varied itineraries according to the events of the war, strategies for escaping from internment, and desires to join a territory of economic ties and family.
