Descripció
Sumari:This article provides an overview of the historical exploration which, since the 1990s, has focused on the topic of help and salvation for Jews in the Third Reich. In a university project (1997-2002), reports about Jews “in hiding” (with the focus on Berlin) and their non-Jewish helpers in Germany were systematically recorded and evaluated for the first time ever. Exemplary case studies show possibilities for action on the part of the helpers and the persecuted as well as a broad spectrum of motivation, milieus and various forms of help. Since 2005, this project has been continued at the German Resistance Memorial Centre (Berlin), which became the Silent Heroes Memorial Centre in 2008. The article references individual studies, particularly with regional implications, as well as recent publications with new methodological approaches of social network analysis and hermeneutic source evaluation which offer effective means for reconstructing the processuality of aid and the interaction of the involved parties.
