Sumari:Anti-Semitism in the Italian pressThe history of anti-Semitic propaganda in Italy during the Fascist era has been written about several times. However, few writers have looked at the role of the major daily newspapers, which offer a unique vantage point from which to study the implementation of the persecution policy doctrine and its evolution. In keeping with the 1938 veline, these newspapers sought to establish an anti-Semitic tradition, yet did not succeed in convincing the public that Mussolini had always prioritized the fight against the Jews. In fact, the campaign against Pietism proves that they were seen as full-fledged citizens. In order to win over public opinion, Il Popolo d’Italia, the Corriere della Sera and, to a lesser degree, L’Italia acted not only as simple reflections, but also as agents, of the regime’s propaganda. They served as doctrinal laboratories, teaching manuals, fields of investigation on the presence of Jews in Italy and cogs in the police administration machine. They were at the forefront of the persecution dynamic that revived the national identity debate in order to transform society.
