Description
Résumé:In the heart of mass destruction: the nazi perpetrator Ernst Zierke, spectator and actor in BelzecThe article of Jan Henrik Fahlbusch reconstructs the biography of the low ranking German SS-perpetrator Ernst Zierke, one of the “ordinary men” taking part in the mass murder at Belzec and Sobibor extermination camp. After having been trained as a male nurse Zierke joined the “T4” office and “served” first in the “Euthanasia“ program centers before moving to the Aktion Reinhardt. By drawing on the concept of Handlungsraum the article exemplifies how Zierke acted at Belzec and Sobibor individually rather than obeying orders as argued in post war trails. The article contributes thus to an analysis of the motivation of the SS men in the Aktion Reinhardt camps.
