| Shrnutí: | A detour through children literature? In view of the fact that numerous Holocaust novels have been written, teaching the subject in high school using these literary works deserves special attention. Historical fiction that depicts children in Auschwitz is too unimaginable to be taught without a certain “cushioning”. Paradoxically, this can still expose a young reader to a brutal reality. By creating this narrative distance between the reality of children in the Holocaust and the high school reader, the writers of these novels enable their readers to approach the subject without having to tackle unanswerable issues.Keeping this kind of a “distance” from the subject is typical of the imagery used in literary language. This allows every literary work, be it prose or verse, to create a successful literary detour when teaching the Holocaust to the very young. |
