Résumé:The representation of Jews in French history textbooks (1957-2007)This article aims to define and characterize the representation of Jews in French history textbooks between 1957 and 2007. A chronological analysis of these textbooks reveals two central themes : the first is that Jewish history is always studied in relation to the Israelites, the Dreyfus Affair, the Vichy regime, the Holocaust and the State of Israel. The second is that Jewish history occupies a very small place in the national curriculum (approximately 2%) though it has steadily increased during the period in question. This analysis does not include those periods in which Jewish history was entirely omitted from the French curriculum or those in which the textbooks themselves were subject to revisions.
