| Résumé: | The Holocaust in the review Historiens-GéographesThis article is the result of a systematic analysis of publications in the journal “Historians and Geographers”, given name since 1976 to the former “Bulletin of the Society of History and Geography Teachers in Public Education”) from the end of World War II to 2008.The article presents the progress made in teaching the subject of the Holocaust in the past fifty years in France. It also deals with contemporary problems that have an impact on teaching the subject. This study examines the role played by this journal which is at the crossroad of research, education and society, searching for knowledge and insight on what Raul Hilberg called “the destruction of European Jewry.”This long-term study has empassed the process of raising consciousness and maintaining the memory of the Holocaust in our society. This society, for the first two decades after the Holocaust, was confronted with a strange lack of official discourse. However, from the 1970s on, it experienced a revival of renewed emotions which also paved the way to historical research. |
