Итог:In the shadow of the Holocaust : the plans of the Russian civil wars (1918-1921)Pogroms that took place during the Russian civil wars from 1918 to 1921 in the shadow of the Holocaust have remained a subject very little studied in view of the exceptional dimension of what was the biggest mass murder of Jews before the genocide. At least 100,000 were assassinated, 200,000 were injured and became invalids in a community that comprised approximately five million people. Several factors explain the relative silence lasting almost until the dawn of the 21th century that followed this tragedy. Firstly, the particularly difficult access to sources which were scattered and partly missing. Next, the “dilution” of these violent acts in that huge tumult commonly referred to as : “troubled times”, the period of the Russian civil wars which were principally multifaceted and disordered confrontations of concentrated brutalization. And finally, the huge shadow of the Holocaust that contributed as to cover up this memory. This article tries to outline the most recent historiography on this crime of mass murder still little known, and then presents a document from the Book on Pogroms (under the direction of L. Miliakova), dealing with one of the major pogroms of the period perpetrated in the town of Proskurov (Podole) in February 1919.
