Résumé:The classification among the despoiled goods in the Hérault département proves that the Jews were present in most of trade and craft activities, including grocery and catering. If their real estates, their personal goods and their company shares show their real integration to the local population (and even, for many families, quite a wealth), they had absolutely no economic monopoly or domination. Because of anti-Semitic laws, preventing them to have a professional activity, and because of the spoliation of their belongings in Paris banks, many refugees who arrived in Hérault had soon huge material difficulties. Thanks to the community solidarity, they were given some help by Jewish organisations and local Jews, before they were despoiled themselves. The number of spoliation acts proves the efficiency of Vichy anti-Semitic policy, led by the Commissariat général aux Questions juives, whose diligence was sometimes broken by the reaction of local authorities.
