| Zusammenfassung: | It was in the decisive period between 1941 and 1942 that the ‘undesirables' confined in the French camps became designated as victims to be
handed over to the occupying forces. This was particularly so in the case
of children whose confinement and persecution (suffering from prolonged
separation, hunger, cold, unhygienic conditions) attested to the crime of
genocide. In her portrayal of a camp, Anne Boitel reveals to us how this
specific population was an essential target of the murderous machine that
was the Reich, with support from the French State. The author has included
a photographie component which provides an insight into a daily existence
characterised by misery, destitution and neglect, despite the enormous
concerted and focused efforts by militants involved in humanitarian work. |
