| Résumé: | The revelation of systemic sexual abuse in an ecclesial context requires us to return to the sources that can document it over time, in particular the inquisitorial files for solicitation. Whereas the crime of solicitation has given rise to a great deal of research, the violence suffered by victims remains to be understood. The article examines the denunciation of violent acts committed by confessors, before the court of Siena, during a long seventeenth century. The expected denunciation concerned the abuse of the sacrament. But the accounts of the denouncers (mainly women) made the solicitation drift towards a crime of the flesh. The article shows that, while the procedure reframed their statements in terms of an abuse of the sacrament, the witnesses persisted in using the Holy Office as a place to denounce sexual violence. |
