Description
Résumé:Between February and December 1916, notwithstanding very low numbers, the Engineer Corps is a crucial player in the victory at Verdun. It fills a key role in logistics, fieldworks, and communications. Simultaneously it conducts mine warfare and contributes to the troop’s rest and recuperation in the rear area camps. In spite of its constant action for and beside the other combat branches, the Engineer Corps is spread too thinly over the battlefield to attract attention, be mentioned in dispatches and find its place in a collective memory marked by the heroic picture of the infantry charge through a hail of bullets and shells.
