Samenvatting:With the end of the Indochina War and the French withdrawal from North Vietnam came up the question of the graves of the Far East Expeditionary Corps ‘soldiers. Since the conquest (end of the XIXth Century) these were managed by a specific body : L’Oeuvre des tombes militaires en Indochine (The Charity of military graves in Indochina). It became quickly evident that this benevolent organization was no more able to regroup and repatriate the corpses and that the state must take over these tasks. This article is followed by the report written by Captain Belmont, an officer send to Diên Biên Phu one year after the end of the battle to seek the graves of the French Union soldiers. A mission that was not followed up.
