Description
Résumé:Mobilized as Brigadier of the 31st regiment of Dragoons at Lunéville on August 27, 1939, Claude Simon witnessed the scathing defeat in the Ardennes. The after-war years were for him a period of inquiry, especially concerning the universalism of values inherited from the Lumières, values that had been called into question by others at the end of the First World War. Starting with Vent (1957), the novelist thus opened a new chapter of examination, creating a body of work based on the rejection of unexpectedly destructive powers : grammar and its acolyte, the sentence. Normally broken down to the lexical level, political discourse was thus transposed to the level of textual structure, configuring a “sort of political action without political words”.
