Résumé:In his autobiography, the Japanese director Kurosawa Akira presents himself as a victim of police censorship during the Second World War. The reality is very different. By showing, through the themes of solidarity, violence and cunning, that films directed by Kurosawa between 1943 and 1945 are war movies, this article does not attempt as much to emphasize collaboration with the militaristic regime as to better understand the history of this crucial period, the influence of which is noticeable in all the subsequent work of this great film maker.
