This article looks at the use of a franchisor to set up a business, and the resulting reconfigurations of self-employed work. Franchisees exploit the products and services of a brand in exchange for compensation and the application of an operational manual. The relationship to economic risk and the conditions of entrepreneurial activity shape the decision to join a franchise network. However, while resorting to a franchisor facilitates and secures entrepreneurship, it also introduces constraints in the execution of the busniness activity. It requires the franchisee to perform work based on relational tasks and the compliance of their professional practices, blurring the boundary between support and subordination.Les nouvelles formes du travail indépendant impliquent une évolution du profil des entrepreneur.es ainsi que de leur travail quotidien. Cet article s’intéresse au recours à un franchiseur pour la création d’une société et aux reconfigurations du travail d’indépendant·es qui en découlent. Les franchisé·es exploitent les produits et services d’une marque contre rémunération et l’application d’un cahier des charges d’exploitation. Leur rapport aux risques économiques et aux conditions d’exercice de l’activité entrepreneuriale façonne leur entrée dans un réseau de franchise. Cependant, s’il facilite et sécurise l’entrepreneuriat, le recours à un franchiseur est aussi facteur de contraintes dans l’exercice de l’activité.
