Yhteenveto:The new forms of self-employment are transforming entrepreneurs’ roles and their daily work. This article looks at the use of a franchisor to set up a business, and the resulting reconfigurations of self-employed work. Franchisees exploit the products and services of a brand in exchange for compensation and the application of an operational manual. The relationship to economic risk and the conditions of entrepreneurial activity shape the decision to join a franchise network. However, while resorting to a franchisor facilitates and secures entrepreneurship, it also introduces constraints in the execution of the busniness activity. It requires the franchisee to perform work based on relational tasks and the compliance of their professional practices, blurring the boundary between support and subordination.
