| Shrnutí: | In this article, we examine the socioeconomic structure of online fortune-telling activities, which rely both on publishing videos on audiovisual platforms and offering remote individual consultations (“guidance”). Despite being practised mainly by working-class and middle-class women, these activities quickly become highly lucrative, albeit in different ways depending on the social and professional trajectories of our respondents. Based on twenty interviews with fortune-tellers, we demonstrate how social and professional trajectories shape (1) the legal and organizational forms of the activity and (2) the ways practitioners develop it to make it both more sustainable and more profitable. |
